Thistle pocket cruiser project drawings
Seventeen-foot Thistle Pocket Cruiser - a high speed sea-going mountain tent for coastal cruising. Designed to sleep 2, and is light enough that it can be dragged ashore on a pair of inflatable big-boat fenders (which double as floatation) that are stored under aft cockpit seats. ![]() Hull is 17 feet long, molded fiberglass with white gelcoat topsides, red boot-top and black bottom. This is a planing hull with plumb bow. The centerboard case is molded integral with bottom. Interior shown uses white 5 gallon plastic buckets with Pyhi molded hatches as dry storage for sleeping bags, clothing, latrine, etc. Basic premise of the design is a boat with a large cockpit with rolled seats that are comfortable for hiking out, trapeze rigs for planing, and a dagger-board-style rudder that slides in and out so that the boat can be trimmed and easily beached. ![]() Inside is sleeping space for 2 people who sleep with bodies in main cabin area on either side of thge centerboard case, and their legs under the seats. Note the bulkheads at the end of the cabin area, that separate the interior from fender storage areas located under the aft sections of the seats. This is the bridge-deck showing the fold-out galley area. Sink and single-burner alcohol stove are mounted in panel that folds down, and two slide out rays fit under the bridge deck on eaithe side, held in place by the folded-down panel. Cook sits facing aft astride the centerboard case, motorcycle-style, with head and upper body outside through cockpit opening. Need more info? | |||||||
