MAKING OFFERS LOCATION PRICES STORIES |
The single most important thing that I have realized in the last decade is that I seem to be spending too much time and effort protecting, maintaining, and keeping track of my stuff.. I have decided that anything that I have not used for over a year must have become unneccessary. Therefore, in an effort to become a divester I have set up this divest-store. I reserve the right to chicken out and decide that a year is not long enough to know, but I don't think I will. And don't worry: most of the stuff on the site so far has sat for closer to a decade than for just a year. And I am adding more stuff almost every day. You will immediately notice that nothing on the site is priced. That is because the buyer is ultimately the one who decides if something is valuable enough to justify the purchase. Therefore, I want the prospective buyer to make the call - if you want something, make me an offer. Here are the ground rules: it appears that Ebay has become the definitive marketplace for collectors at this point, so that is where the prices for comparable goods ought to come from, where possible. However, I have been buying stuff on Ebay, or trying to, since the very beginning, and because there are almost always people willing to bid more than I am willing to pay, I am rarely the high bid. I just draw my line and let it go, or else someone who sees my bids hovering in the high-bid-zone right up to the end, and offers me something similar privately. What I am proposing is that I expect the items ought to bring something like 75% - 80% of the "going rate" on Ebay. Send me copies of some recent closing prices from Ebay (or other equally "legitimate" public forum) to support your offer and explain how you want an item shipped, and it's probably yours. Feel free to tell me that the market is crazy and that you don't want to pay 75% of Ebay prices. I might well agree with you! I may even tell you that your offer is too high!! In the end, what I want you to do is figure out the most you would be comfortable paying and pay that amount and not a penny more, or a penny less. There is no possibility of insult here. So far, I have let the buyer dictate the terms of sale on every item, and that has felt excellent. I reserve the right to hold on to things, so in some sense there is a reserve price, but the whole point here is to let go. Procedure Click on any item to open an email dialogue with me. When I receive your message, I will add a icon to the item. There will be an icon posted for each person who enters the dialogue on an item. Think of it like the bidders on Ebay. Mouse the icon to see the "ALT text" which will show you exactly what level the discussion has reached. When we reach agreement I will add a icon.Once it ships, it will be marked and/or removed from the website.I assume I will set up a PayPal account eventually to handle financial transactions.
